Inukjuak hunters believe trapped whales are now free

Officials in Inukjuak say they have gotten word that the whales trapped near their community are now free.

About a dozen orcas had been stuck in a small patch of open water in the ice, about 30 kilometres off the coast of the village.

The community had been planning to send a few dozen people out to the site to break up the ice and help the whales survive.

Tommy Palliser told Quebec AM about their plans, before he had gotten word that the whales were gone.
