In 2020, Celeigh Cardinal achieved one of Canada’s highest musical accolades, a JUNO Award for Indigenous Artist of the Year 2019 for her album Stories From a Downtown Apartment. She also received two Western Canadian Music Awards nominations, including Indigenous Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. Her previous album Everything and Nothing at All, released in 2017 earned her the Indigenous Artist of the Year trophy from the 2018 Western Canadian Music Awards, 8 nominations from the Edmonton Music Awards and a CBC Indigenous Music Award nomination for Best Pop album. She is currently writing and working towards her 2023 release, Boundless Possibilities.
In 2018, Celeigh became the first Indigenous radio host at Alberta’s CKUA Radio with her weekly show ‘Full Circle’ and soon after began contributing to the provincial program ‘Key of A’ on CBC Radio Alberta. Last year Celeigh co-hosted the award winning program ‘A Day to Listen 2022” presented by the Downie Wenjack Fund.
Walking the path that her elder Indigenous creatives have paved, Celeigh is determined to continue finding and making opportunities for more representation of Indigenous artists in music and media. Cardinal has 20 years of performance experience under her belt. She has performed in festivals across Canada from Whitehorse to Iqaluit, and Halifax to Vancouver Island. She has been building her international profile with festival and showcase performances in Germany, Dubai, Denmark, Sweden, and the United States.
