McGill study says individual hospital rooms can prevent spread of antibiotic resistant infections

Daybreak Montreal

Can private hospital rooms potentially stop the spread of deadly hospital infections? That's what a new study, based on stats out of the MUHC's Glen site, is claiming. Montreal's new super hospital was built with only private rooms, and the study found that the rate of infection for one superbug dropped significantly after patients were moved from shared rooms at the old hospital to individual rooms in the new building. We hear from Dr. Emily McDonald, the first author of this study, an attending physician at the MUHC and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at McGill.
