Saskatoon doctor tells parents to seek second diagnosis when child's behaviour suddenly changes

Saskatoon Morning

Imagine this: One day your kid is happy and healthy - the next, that same kid is angry, agitated, and displaying obsessive compulsive behaviour. You might assume it's a mental health issue - but in some cases, that behaviour may actually be caused by an immune reaction. Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome affects about 1 in 200 kids. It is rarely recognized and rarely diagnosed. Rachelle Adams' son was stricken with the disease. Dr. James Purnell helped treat it. They both spoke with Saskatoon Morning's Jennifer Quesnel.
