Iconic Canadian heavy metal band Anvil to perform at the East Town Get Down

The Homestretch

When it comes to Canadian heavy metal -- HEAVY HITTERS -- no band compares to Anvil. The pioneering group started their journey as teenage-metal-heads back in the late 1970's. In their hay-day, the Toronto trio influenced the likes of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeath, and many other heavy metal super-stars. But while they rocked-the-line -- on the brink of success, they never managed to break through. A 2008 documentary about the band, called "Anvil: The Story of Anvil", finally gave the aging rockers the respect they deserve and brought with it a whole new following of fans. Now in their sixties, founding members Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner are still touring. They're coming to Calgary this Saturday for the East Town Get Down.
