Training wheels vs balance bikes

With the days getting longer and warmer, many people are getting out their bicycles for the season. It's also a time for children to learn how to ride. For decades, training wheels have been key in helping kids starting out. They're so ingrained in our culture, the phrase "taking the training wheels off" has become a useful metaphor. But these days, many children skip that step altogether. Instead, they start off with pedal-less balance bikes and then move straight to the real thing. CBC's Blair Sanderson has a closer look at cycling that starts when you hit the ground running.
