The Trailbreaker

Documentary director Shannon Walsh's brushes with the energy industry made her think about how humans sometimes think we can fix anything with the right technology. In a new film, Illusions of Control, she wanted to look at this misplaced sense of authority -- and the projects where that has catastrophic consequences. One of those places was Giant Mine, where environmental advocate Stacey Drygeese-Sundberg has been looking at the ways the project affected her Yellowknives Dene homeland and the traditions of her elders. In this interview -- fresh off their premiere screening at Toronto's Hot Docs -- Stacey and Shannon talk about what this film means to them.
