Cancer caused by asbestos and lessons from an Italian town nearly ruined by it

Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer that many Toronto families know only too well. It's caused by exposure to asbestos: for many years, the number one killer of people in Canada's workplaces. Thousands of construction trade workers have been exposed to asbestos since the 1950s. Now, as a result of that exposure, hundreds of them are now dying from cancers like mesothelioma each year. This week the Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation co-sponsored a visit by a delegation from Casale Monferrato. It's a city in northern Italy that was devastated by mesothelioma. But found a way to address it. Andy Querin is a member of the board of the C-M-F. His father died from Mesothelioma.
