It's no secret that food can tie families together.

All in a Weekend Montreal

Recipes are passed on between generations, often with an accompanying story. These stories can be as delicious as the food itself. Montreal writer Kim Thúy knows all about this. She's not only the Governor General Award winning novelist of Ru. She's an experienced cook. And for five years, she ran a Vietnamese restaurant in Montreal. Now she's written a book that brings together her literary and cultinary sides. `Secrets from My Vietnamese Kitchen' shares recipes for Vietnamese Phos, stir-fries and deserts. But it also traces the threads of culture and family that have shaped her life. Kim Thúy joined me in studio this week to talk about it.
