A new documentary takes us through the streets of a neighbourhood in Athens called Exarcheia (EX-ZAR-KI-A).
The district is renowned for its anarchist, graffiti-coated streets and squats. And in the documentary, the camera wanders into the neighbourhood bars, apartments and theaters at night. We meet its artists and intellectuals who offer up freewheeling conversations to the camera about politics, literature and art. Their home is rich in history, but the economic decline casts a long shadow. Filmmaker Nadine Gomez joins me in studio this morning to talk about Exarcheia, the Chanting of Birds.
