Councillor proposes residential property tax increases to offset business property downturn
City council is looking at ways to avoid big increases in business property taxes. Land values downtown have fallen and that's resulted in large tax hikes for business properties outside the core. For the past two years, the city has used money from savings to limit the tax hikes. Councillor Jyoti Gondek proposes to shift the tax burden from business properties to residential ones. She is councillor for Ward 3 and she joined host Doug Dirks on the line.
