Volunteers work to make Pleasant Hill neighbourhood safer.

Saskatoon Morning

To an outsider, the Pleasant Hill area of Saskatoon looks like it might live up to its name. It's a neighbourhood bustling with children -- There's a spacious park and a big hill where people like to gather. But there is also a darker side -- where shootings, drugs and crime are common. Earlier this week the Pleasant Hill Community School went into lockdown after reports that a man with a gun and another with a machete were trying to get into the school. That's why a group of volunteers has decided to take back the streets with its own patrol group.
