The history of domesticated animals in Calgary

The Homestretch

In Calgary, its against the law to keep any kind of livestock, including chickens, in your yard. That wasn't the case back in the 19th century, when people lived alongside all kinds of animals, including chickens, sheep, even pigs. Jim Ellis presented the history of wild and domesticated animals in our city today as part of Historic Calgary Week. He is the editor of a book called 'Calgary: City of Animals' and the director of the Calgary Institute for Humanities at the University of Calgary.
