Make This Simple Mortarboard To Celebrate CBC Kids Kindie Class of 2021!

Jun 4, 2021

Who's ready to celebrate this year's kindergarten graduates in style at the CBC Kids Kindie Class of 2021 with Gary the Unicorn?

But are you and your littles really ready without your very own DIY mortarboard (or graduation cap) for the ceremony? After all, you're never fully dressed without a smile and sculptural headwear.

We've got you covered! This simple craft will have your proud kindie looking grad-tastic for our Facebook LIVE event on June 19, 2021, at 1 p.m. ET.

What You'll Need

  • 2 sheets of construction paper in your kindie's favourite colour
  • scissors
  • glue gun or glue stick

A special diploma for kindergarten graduates signed by Gary the Unicorn that kids can colour in? I think we can handle that.

How It's Made

1. Take the corner of one piece of paper, and fold it diagonally to make a triangle. Cut the excess paper, and you’ll have a square to be used for the top of your grad cap. Set aside.

2. Take the other piece of paper and fold lengthwise down the middle. Cut the paper along the fold. You should now have two rectangular pieces left, and the square from the first piece of paper.

3. Cut approximately 1-inch slits along one side of each rectangle.

4. Apply glue to one short edge of one of the rectangle pieces, and attach the other rectangle, ensuring the slits are all along the same side.

5. Apple glue to another one of the short edges and attach it to the other side to make a circle. This is the base of your grad cap.

6. Fold the tabs outward from the centre of the circle, and apply glue to each tab.

7. Secure the circular base of the cap to the square you made in step one.

8. Decorate how you’d like!
