Mighty Express + More New Shows For Kids This April On CBC Kids And CBC Gem

Apr 1, 2021

Spring is here and with it comes some new shows for all ages, changes to the schedule (welcome back, Paddington!) and a fun video that might just be the boost we need to see us through to summer. Read on for all the details!

And as a general reminder, you can find CBC Kids every morning on your local CBC Television station, and it’s always a good idea to check your guide or listings, or CBC’s Program Guide, for the most up-to-date listings for your region. For those who prefer streaming, you can find most CBC Kids shows on CBC’s FREE streaming service, CBC Gem. Some of our shows are also on YouTube!

PREMIERE: Mighty Express comes to TV and CBC Gem

A scene from Mighty Express

Where and when to watch it: Watch for the Canadian television premiere of Mighty Express on April 5. You’ll be able to find it weekday mornings at 7:54 a.m. local time (8:24 in N.L.) and Saturdays at 9:37 a.m. on CBC TV, and new episodes will be available each weekday morning for free on CBC Gem.

Perfect for preschoolers, Mighty Express is the newest train show in town. An action-packed series featuring a team of trains, their kid friends, teamwork and adventure. If your kid loves trains, you really can’t go wrong.

NEW EPISODES: Super Agent Jon Le Bon!

Where and when to watch it: Every Saturday morning starting April 10, find brand new seven-minute versions of Super Agent Jon Le Bon!, both on CBC TV and streaming on CBC Gem.

The Jon Le Bon book series, written and illustrated by Montrealer Alex A, has been a favourite of Canadian eight-year-olds for almost 10 years. Voiced by Schitt’s Creek star Dustin Milligan, Jon Le Bon and his fellow agents attempt to save the world from disaster in every episode, much to the chagrin of supervillains hatching evil plots.

PREMIERE: Australian series First Day comes to CBC Gem

Where and when to watch it: Stream it on CBC Gem starting March 31.

Much of the press around ABC tween series First Day describes it as “groundbreaking." I’m not sure if it’s the very first tween series about a transgender girl (Hannah) played by a transgender girl (Evie Macdonald), but if you’ve got a tween at home we encourage you to share it with them. It’s especially poignant that launch day also happens to be International Trans Day of Visibility.

RETURNING TO TV: The Adventures of Paddington

Where and when to watch it: Weekday mornings starting April 5, at 8:17 a.m. (8:47 a.m. in N.L.) and 10:11 a.m. (10:41 a.m. in N.L.). Saturday mornings at 8:48 a.m. and 10:26 a.m. (check local listings). You can also stream all episodes on CBC Gem.

We’ve had so many questions about when The Adventures of Paddington would return to the morning TV schedule and that time has finally come. Enjoy! And if you miss a morning, you can stream it any time for free on CBC Gem.

NEW ON YOUTUBE: Keep Movin’

This is on YouTube, but it's worth sharing here. For kids in lockdown areas, this pandemic is really dragging. If your preschooler needs a pep talk, share this with them:
