Halkomelem is a Coast Salish language spoken by more than 40 First Nations stretching from the Fraser Valley to the B.C. Coast to Vancouver Island. It is also spoken in communities in Washington State. The language has upwards of 17 dialects but is divided into three main dialects: Upriver (Halq̓eméylem), Downriver (Hul̓q̓umín̓um̓) and Island (hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓) dialect.
