It seems the "old-timers" still have it!

The Montreal Canadiens Alumni team played the H J Bartlett Electric Blades of the Avalon East Senior Hockey League on Wednesday night and CBC was there!

Hockey legends like Stephan Richer, Claude Lemieux, Chris Nilan,

Gilbert Dionne, Yves Racine, Alain Cote, Giles Thibaudeau, Goaltender Richard

Sevigny and current member of the Blades Terry Ryan put off quite a show.

Professional figure skater Chelsey Moore from Disney on Ice was there too. She entertained the crowd during the first intermission.

The Mount Pearl Atom Blades got a taste of the big leagues when they faced the Alumni team in the third period. Although many of them were only up to the knees of the Montreal players, they managed to sneak in a few goals.

logo_blackonly.jpgIt's hard to believe that it's been nearly a month since Hurricane Igor ripped through our province. As thousands of people clean up their towns, homes and their lives, others stand guard to lend a hand ... or in this case, a song.

On October 19th, some of the best musical acts in this province take to the stage at Mile One Centre to help those affected by Igor.

We Stand On Guard will feature acts like Hey Rosetta! The Once, Tara Oram, Amelia Curran, Shannygannock, Novaks, and many more.

If you can't be there for the concert, don't worry. You can tune in Live to CBC Radio One. Co-hosted by CBC's Ramona Dearing and Mack Furlong, we'll be  broadcasting the concert from 7:30 - 9:30 pm. The show will also be streamed live at cbc.ca/nl, so be sure to tell your friends and family living away to tune in.

CBC's Lee Pitts had the opportunity to present some amazing pictures last night at the opening ceremonies of the 60th annual Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador convention in St.John's.

Pitts, who was on the road for nine days during Hurricane Igor, told stories of the heroism and leadership he witnessed as he traveled through towns that were devastated by the storm.

The singing Legionnaires started the evening off with wonderful performance of "O Canada", "Ode to Newfoundland", and "Ode to Labrador"
