MAY 24TH WEEKEND UPDATE- WED
May 16, 2012 1:34 PM
Hey Folks,
The long weekend is approaching... and as far as May 24th weekend's go...
it's not looking too shabby!
Here are the 'Coles Notes' of what's on the menu, Weather Wise.
FRIDAY
-A trough line moving across the Island from West to East, Thursday and
into Friday will be pushing out to the Atlantic on Friday night. It looks like
the showers will be wrapping up well before supper time across the Avalon.
-Overnight lows on the Island should be in the low-mid single digits.
-Our Low will be pushing out to the Labrador Sea and in behind, we're
looking a cooler temperatures wrapping into Labrador. Friday night temperatures in Labrador will be flirting with the freezing mark.
-Wouldn't rule out wet flurries in the West, as per the Canadian GEM model above.
SATURDAY
-A cooler Northwesterly flow will keep temperatures across the Island into
the low-mid teens... the warmest spots will be along the South Coast. Overnight
Saturday temps in the low single digits.
-A mix of Sun and Cloud is looking likely for most, however for the Northern Peninsula and the North Coast of the Island, we could see some cloud cover building in the afternoon.
-In Labrador, again a cooler Northerly flow means temps in the mid-single
digits... dipping to or below freezing on Saturday night.
-Sun and Cloud in Lab West. Looks like a more Cloud than Sun and a chance of
showers or drizzle in the East, along the Coast and into HV-GB.
SUNDAY
-Expect some Sun in the mix, but as our Low passes North of the Island on
Sunday, looks like the cloud cover will thicken up over Northern Newfoundland
and even down the Northeast Coast. It's still early, but even the GFS model
(above) is flirting with the idea of a light shower or period of drizzle.
-Temperatures across the Island, are looking similar to Saturday... likely
in the low-mid teens. It's 5 days out... so it's tough to say for sure, however
the Sunday night temperatures will likely be the coolest of the weekend across
the Island. Again low single digits, especially in Central. You campers, bundle
up!
-Most of Labrador is looking pretty solid on Sunday. Sun and Cloud for
inland locations, however the Coast will be much cooler with plenty of cloud
cover and the possibility of a shower.
MONDAY
-A system rolling in from the West, will bring increasing clouds into
Labrador on Monday. Again it's still very early, but showers are looking
likely in the West and even into East for Monday afternoon. Stay tuned on this.
-Temperatures will be much warmer in Labrador however, as a Southwesterly
flow sets up and pumps temperatures up into the teens.
-With a ridge of High pressure setting up over the Island, we're looking at
Sunshine on the menu. However the warm front from the system moving into
Labrador, will build the cloud cover up over the Northern Peninsula, Western
Labrador and even into Central Newfoundland. Wouldn't rule out a few afternoon showers,
but it's too early to say for sure.
-Temps across the Island will again be into the mid-teens, but should be slightly warmer than Sunday.
Stay tuned!
Ryan
