89. Amend the Physical Activity and Sport Act to ensure policies are inclusive to Aboriginal Peoples

We call upon the federal government to amend the Physical Activity and Sport Act to support reconciliation by ensuring that policies to promote physical activity as a fundamental element of health and well-being, reduce barriers to sport participation, increase the pursuit of excellence in sport, and build capacity in the Canadian sport system, are inclusive to Aboriginal Peoples.

There has been no amendment to the Physical Activity and Sport Act, to support reconciliation with the policies stated in Call to Action #89.

The most recent reference to Indigenous participation in sport was in 2005, when Canadian Heritage released a report called “Sport Canada’s Policy on Aboriginal Peoples Participation in Sport.”
