The Queen of England is going to pocket $60 million next year, after netting a five per cent increase following record portfolio profits.

The money from the real estate portfolio will be used to support the Queen's work as Head of State, according to the British Monarchy's website.

When the news broke, many people seemed taken aback by just how much money the Queen made annually.

While others suggested people shouldn't be too quick to judge the Queen's pay raise.

The money will go towards helping the Queen carry out her royal duties, including:

  • Travel for official engagements.
  • Maintenance of royal residences.
  • Funding for the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip.
  • Salaries for employees of the royal household.

What do you think of the Queen's five per cent raise? Does the head of the royal family deserve a $60 million salary?
