Karl Belanger's not-so-secret flame

As Day One of the Olympic torch relay begins, word that a well-known face in Ottawa has scored a leg of the relay.

As it turns out, Karl Belanger, Jack Layton's press secretary, won a contest sponsored by Coca-Cola.

Belanger is one of 12,000 Canadians who will carry the torch.

And so, on Dec. 12, at around 1:30 p.m., Belanger will strike out along Montreal Road in Ottawa to run his portion of the relay.

Belanger also scored a lovely white track suit (the mandatory relay gear) and some red mittens.

All torchbearers have the opportunity to later buy a replica of the torch.

Belanger tells me he is in training.

Man, I can't wait to see those photos!
