Longtime film buffs will almost undoubtedly have an opinion on the long legacy of James Bond. Since leaping off of the pages of Ian Fleming's novels back in 1962, seven actors have taken on the mantle of the British Secret Service agent.

Now, you might think that most former Bonds - as well as current avatar Daniel Craig - would like to vouch for their interpretations of the character ranking among the best. But Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond in four films in the 1990s and 2000s, doesn't look back on his work as fondly.

The 60-year-old actor said as much in a lengthy interview with The Telegraph on Saturday.

"I have no desire to watch myself as James Bond, 'cause it's just never good enough," he says. "It's a horrible feeling."

He said his three sons often complain that he won't join them to watch his on-screen exploits, and from the tone of the interview it's unlikely that will change any time soon.

Brosnan played James Bond in 1995's GoldenEye, 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies, 1999's The World is Not Enough and 2002's Die Another Day.

Daniel Craig is set to star in his fourth Bond film, currently scheduled for release in 2015.

Brosnan also spoke with the Telegraph about his new film The Love Punch, where he joins a leading case of retirees attempting to pull off a diamond heist. He and Emma Thompson play "a happily divorced former husband and wife."

Brosnan commented on his pairing with Thompson, who is 54, as unusual when compared with other Hollywood productions that will often have a leading man 20 years older than the love interest.

"It's so manicured and codified in America; they don't really venture into the realms of reality when it comes to the relationships of men and women; they go to the market of youth."

Do you agree with Pierce Brosnan's opinion on his own work as James Bond? Who was the best Bond actor?
