Toronto mayor Rob Ford has been on the defensive since May 16, 2013, when the U.S. gossip site Gawker posted a story saying its editor was offered a video showing Ford apparently smoking crack cocaine. The following day the Toronto Star posted its story, claiming its reporters had also viewed the video. This marked the beginning of a long saga of allegations and denials.
On Nov. 5, Ford decided to come clean and admit he has smoked crack cocaine, calling the admission "the most difficult and embarrassing thing I have ever had to do".
