
ISIS was driven out of Raqqa, its self-proclaimed capital, between June and October of this year by a combination of staggering air power and the sweat and blood of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). ISIS took the city in 2014, and while it has now been liberated, the shadows of the terror group’s cruelties still lurk in Raqqa’s pounded landscape.
