Suicidal woman jumps into crocodile pit
A woman apparently killed herself Sunday by jumping into a crocodile pit in Bangkok while horrified tourists looked on.
BBC News Online reports that there were 100 crocodiles in the pit at feeding time when the woman jumped. One crocodile dragged her away, then others took part in the feeding frenzy.
The woman, believed to be in her 30s, had left a suicide note.
Witnesses say she climbed a high fence by the pit, then jumped into the concrete enclosure at the Samut Prakarn Crocodile Farm outside of Bangkok.
"She did not cry or scream when she was bitten," a tour guide said. "It happened so quickly. Nobody could do anything."
Park guide Thanes Wiriyaporn watched the woman jump in the crocodile pit. "Just right in front of me, she just jumped into the pond, without a word, without a cry," Wiriyaporn said. "The moment the crocodile grabbed her body, she even hugged onto him. It was horrifying."
The crocodile farm, largest of its kind in the world, is home to some 60,000 crocodiles.
