She said Ramseywas first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1993. The disease responded well to treatment and went into remission, but reappeared several years ago.
Ramsey's death brings to a close one chapter in a tragedy that has intriguedmany peoplefor years.
In her short life, JonBenet was crowned Little Miss Colorado; Little Miss Charlevoix, Mich.; Colorado State All-Star Kids Cover Girl; America's Royale Miss, and National Tiny Miss Beauty.
But the popular child queen was found strangled to death in the basement of the family's home in Boulder, Colo., with a ransom note demanding $118,000 US for her safe return.
JonBenet's parents came under suspicion, but the murderer was never found.
"Hopefully [Patsy's] legacy will not be tied to the false accusation related to the brutal murder of her daughter," Wood said.
