Floods in Malaysia displace 3,300
An official says flooding in northern Malaysia has caused thousands to be evacuated and claimed two lives.
Mohamad Rosli Mamat, a government official in northern Kelantan state, said a 16-year-old boy fishing by a canal and a 10-year-old girl playing outside her home drowned when they fell into the flood waters over the weekend in two state districts.
He said more than 3,300 people were waiting in shelters for the water to recede Monday as the rain had stopped.
Flooding — due to annual heavy monsoon rains — has eased in other states on the east coast.
