Blast rocks Chechen capital

A powerful explosion has shaken Grozny, the capital of Russia's Chechen Republic.

A powerful explosion has shaken the capital of the restive Russian region of Chechnya, injuring several people.

The explosion detonated near central Grozny's drama theatre on Wednesday at about 6 p.m. local time.

One person appeared gravely wounded, while two others appeared to have minor injuries.

There was no immediate official word on what caused the explosion.

Chechnya has been stricken by two wars between separatists and Russian forces since 1994, and scattered violence and clashes continue even though full-scale fighting has stopped.
