Airbus tests prototype of electric airplane
Airbus successfully tested a prototype electric plane, dubbed the E-Fan, in Bordeaux, France, Friday.
Airbus Group says that the plane, which runs on lithium-ion polymer batteries, is best suited for short missions and pilot training.
The aircraft maker says it hopes to use hybrid electric engines in other aircraft in the future and aims to have a regional electric plane that can seat between 70 and 80 people within the next 20 years.
