Indian Day School survivors reach interim settlement with Ottawa

About 200,000 Indigenous children attended federally operated Indian Day Schools across the country beginning in the 1920s. The schools were operated separately from Indian Residential Schools and were not included in the 2006 Indian Residential Schools settlement agreement. Ottawa has now reached an agreement in principle to compensate individuals who attended those day schools.
