World-famous British physicist and author Stephen Hawking is looking for an assistant.

A posting on the website of the University of Cambridge says Hawking is looking for a recent university graduate to work with him.

The successful candidate could earn up to $49,500 Cdn and "would also accompany Professor Hawking on his many travels," according to the posting.

Hawking is known for his groundbreaking work on black holes and the origins of the universe, and for his popular book A Brief History of Time.

The assistant would be responsible for maintaining and improving upon the computer system and speech synthesizer Hawking uses to communicate.

Hawking communicates with the help of a computer because he has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurological disorder also called Lou Gehrig's disease. He is almost completely paralyzed and uses a wheelchair.

The assistant would also help Hawking prepare and deliver his lectures and assist with his scientific papers.

"Flexibility, stamina and a confident and caring personality… are essential for this demanding job," the posting reads.
