Official Sask. centennial song chosen
Move over Green is the Colour – Saskatchewan has a new song, selected from over 250 entries to commemorate the province's 100th birthday.
Saskatchewan, We Love This Place, the province's official centennial song, was unveiled in Saskatoon on Thursday.
Songwriter Stan Garchinski, a member of the Hot Tomales, said he hopes everybody in the province will like the song and make it their own.
Read the song lyrics:
"As I wrote this song, I could hear many different voices singing it and different musicians with their own version," said Garchinski, 43, a Saskatoon resident.
"I can't wait to hear all the versions. I can't wait to hear a marching band or polka version."
Several versions of the song, including the official recording by Brad Johner, are available on the Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 website at www.sask2005.ca.
Saskatchewan, We Love This Place and some of the other songs that were submitted will be collected in a free commemorative songbook issued in the spring.
