Linwood Barclay knows how to write a thriller. His books are page-turners, selling more than five million copies in dozens of countries around the world. And tomorrow, the latest one, Broken Promises, is set for release.

The book follows David Harwood, who moves back to his childhood home in Promise Falls, New York after losing his job in the media business.

Both Harwood's family and the town have secrets — involving miscarriage, murder, a mystery child, and strange rituals.

The American-born Canadian author, who lives in Oakville, Ont,. spoke on Monday with Matt Galloway, host of CBC Radio's Metro Morning, about how things go wrong in what seems like a ordinary, small town.
