Rufus Wainwright says a documentary about his mother, the late Montreal folksinger Kate McGarrigle, is in the works.

Rufus Wainwright says a documentary about his mother, the late Montreal folksinger Kate McGarrigle, is in the works.

Wainwright announced on his website Tuesday that upcoming concerts in memory of McGarrigle will be filmed for a feature-length documentary.

The tribute shows, to take place May 12 and 13 at Town Hall in New York City, are expected to feature performances from Wainwright, his sister Martha, McGarrigle's sister Anna, Norah Jones and Emmylou Harris.

The show will be shot by Lian Lunson, who did the Leonard Cohen documentary I'm Your Man.

Wainwright requested donations for the project on his website.

McGarrigle died of sarcoma in January 2010.
