James Franco to publish debut novel in 2013
Actor James Franco, who starred in 127 Hours and Milk, plans to release his first novel in 2013.
Titled Actors Anonymous, it will be published by Amazon Publishing New York and is the highest profile work yet acquired by the fledgling imprint. The novel is purportedly a fictionalized retelling of Franco’s experiences as an actor.
A spokeswoman for Amazon, which ventured into publishing in 2011, declined to discuss the terms of the book deal and whether the novel would be published in e-book as well as print form. Ed Park, the editor who acquired the book, described it as "a hugely ambitious and wild ride."
The 33-year-old Franco published a book of short stories entitled Palo Alto, named after his California hometown, in 2010. It received mixed reviews.
Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in English at Yale and another in creative writing at the University of Houston, the actor has also dabbled in documentary filmmaking, curating art exhibits and creating multimedia and dance projects. In addition, he co-hosted the 2011 Oscars.
