Colm Feore joins Borgias series

Canadian Colm Feore will play Cardinal Giuliano Della Rovere in the new historical drama series The Borgias.

Canadian actor Colm Feore, a veteran of the stage and screen, has joined the cast of the highly touted new series, The Borgias.

Feore, who has appeared on 24 and Flashpoint, has inked a deal for the 10-episode series, which replaces the highly popular costume drama The Tudors, wrapping up this season.

The Tudors chronicled the early life of King Henry VIII.

The Borgia cast also includes Jeremy Irons as the patriarch of the real-life powerful, and corrupt, 15th-century Borgia family. Irons's character, Rodrigo Borgia, became Pope Alexander VI in 1492. Feore will portray Rodrigo's rival, Cardinal Giuliano Della Rovere.

Other Canadians connected with the glossy drama, a co-production between Ireland, Hungary and Canada, include director Jeremy Podeswa, production designer François Séguin and director of photography Paul Sarossy.

Podeswa shares directing duties with Irish helmer Neil Jordan. The award-winning Podeswa has carved out a career in Hollywood series, directing episodes of Six Feet Under, Nip/Tuck and The Tudors.

The Borgias will be shot in Hungary this summer and is expected to air in 2011 in Canada on CTV and Bravo.
