Canadian comic performers to celebrate at annual awards

The Canadian Comedy Awards honour excellence in film, television and live performance.

The awards show is among the highlights of a five-day comedy festival that has been held in the southwestern Ontario city since 2003.

Best comedic play:

Best sketch troupe:

  • Canadian Content
  • The Imponderables
  • The Minnesota Wrecking Crew

Best standup newcomer:

Organizers will hand out awardsin 20 different categories.

Each year, the winners arevoted onby 18,000 performers and industry members from ACTRA, the Canadian Actor's Equity Association, the Directors and Writers Guilds, and the Comedy Association.

A selection of comedy showcases will follow Friday evening's awards gala, with a Canadian Comedy Gala Review also scheduled for Saturday night.

Scheduled for broadcast by The Comedy Network and hosted by comedy writer, actor and former Kids in the Hall star Mark McKinney,the review will also include performances by the cast of CBC-TV's Royal Canadian Air Farce and comedians Mike McDonald and Derek Edwards.
