Betty White, the octogenarian actor who has reignited her career with appearances on Saturday Night Live and a starring role in Hot in Cleveland, is to become an author.

Publisher G.P. Putnam has announced a two-book deal with White, 88, whose TV credits include Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

The first book, Listen Up!, will offer "life lessons" she has learned during her long career in Hollywood, the publisher said.

The book will include personal observations on a wide range of topics, including television, aging, life, love, sex, and celebrity, including her recent stint on Saturday Night Live. It will be published in spring 2011.

The second book, titled The Zoo and I: Betty and Her Friends, will be filled with stories and photographs about White's animal friends.

She is a long-time member of the board of the Los Angeles Zoo and has been an advocate for animal welfare. That book will be released in 2012.
