Actor Ashton Kutcher has signed up to be the 500th "astronaut customer" to fly into space with Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic, Branson announced on his blog today.

"I gave Ashton a quick call to congratulate and welcome him. He is as thrilled as we are at the prospect of being among the first to cross the final frontier (and back!) with us and to experience the magic of space for himself," Branson wrote on his blog.

Rather than tweet about it himself, Kutcher re-tweeted Branson's welcome.

"Welcome on board @aplusk - @virgingalactic's 500th future astronaut! See you up in space Ashton? http://virg.co/IbBuU," Branson tweeted.

A flight costs $200,000, and deposits start at $20,000. When a client pays the deposit, they become a member of "the world's most exclusive club with privileged access to all aspects of the project as it progresses," according to the Virgin Galactic website.

The date and time of the space flight has not been announced.
