Woman killed at crosswalk

An elderly woman has been charged, after a fatal accident last night in the west end of Toronto.

Police say an unidentified woman was struck by a car while using a pedestrian crossing at Bloor Street West and Markland Road.

The victim became wedged under the vehicle and was dragged about a kilometre. She became dislodged on a private driveway on Renforth Drive. The woman's body lay on the ground for about half an hour before being noticed by a person who lives in the area.

Investigators are now trying to confirm the identity of the victim. She is believed to have been in her early 30s.

The police have charged 84-year-old Pilar Hicks with careless driving and failing to stop after an accident, causing death. The second charge is a criminal code offence.
