Some in Windsor joined more than a billion people across the world ushering in the Lunar New Year Wednesday night.

Unlike the Chinese zodiac, which is marking the Year of the Sheep, the Vietnamese community is celebrating the Year of the Goat, a symbol of patience and peace.

"I think it's a misconception that it's just celebrated by Chinese people," Katherine Pham said, who rang in the new year with Windsor's Vietnamese community at the Linh Son Temple on Goyeau Street.

"It's more for any culture who follows the lunar calendar. So I think it's just not understanding, not the awareness," she said.
