Windsor region sees 70 per cent jump in housing starts compared to March 2016
There were a total of 97 homes started in Windsor last month
The towns surrounding Windsor are behind another significant increase in housing starts for the region this March.
Work began at 97 new homes last month, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation — a 70 per cent increase over March of last year.
Statistics show large surges in construction activity in LaSalle, Lakeshore and Amherstburg.
But within Windsor's city limits, there was an 8 per cent drop.
In December an analyst from the CMHC said the number of single-detached starts in the area was the highest in a decade and credited the increase to a higher employment rate and a surge in people moving to the region.
March housing starts:
- City of Windsor 33 - down 8 per cent
- Amherstburg 7 - up 250 per cent
- LaSalle 28 - up 1,300 per cent
- Tecumseh 5 - down 29 per cent
- Lakeshore 24 - up 140 per cent
Total Windsor area: 97 - a 70 per cent increase compared to the 57 starts in March last year
