A new platform built at the WFCU Centre will let students in grades 5 and 6 ride a VIA Rail train from the Walker Rd. train station, while also learning about rail safety en route.

The unusual train stop is part of a temporary installation that's part of the national passenger rail service's Safety Train Program and Education Expo.

The man driving the train to and from the hockey arena has experience with the Memorial Cup as well. Fred Boimistruck won the championship during his time with the Cornwall Royals, including a win in the 1980-81 tournament held in Windsor.

Once at the WFCU Centre, students will be able to tour Memorial Cup displays such as the Military Zone, and materials from the Hockey Hall of Fame and Canadian Hockey League. The general public will be able to see these exhibits for free from May 19 until May 28.

The first VIA train heading to the WFCU Centre will leave at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
