No, Ikea Canada does not plan to open a store at the site of the former GM transmission plant on Walker Road, despite a promotional map suggesting so.

A mailer promoting the opening of the furniture store chain's pick-up and order location indicates the store's location will be on the west side of Walker Road, near Seminole Street, site of the former massive GM plant.

In fact, the pick-up and order location will open Monday in the former Future Shop at 4115 Walker Rd., near Home Depot.

Ikea Canada's corporate press officer Stephanie Kerr insists the map is an error and the company never had plans to open a store at the former auto plant.

"We're working quickly to correct it," Kerr wrote in an email. "Going forward all maps will be adjusted to reflect the correct location and we apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused."
