Jackson Browne jokes about death threats during Windsor show
Security 'quadrupled' at show, says concertgoer
Despite death threats and heavy security, Jackson Browne kept it light during his performance in Windsor Thursday night.
In the hours before the show posters with the singer-songwriter's picture calling on "Canadiens" (sic) to "SHOOT A SOCIALIST!!!" were strewn across a neighbourhood near Victoria Avenue and Shepherd Street.
Windsor police are continuing to investigate the handbills, which were first discovered by Joe McParland while he was out walking his dogs.
McParland, who happens to be a big fan of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, had tickets to the show at Caesars Windsor and said he decided to go despite the possibility of violence.
Metal detectors, purse searches and a large police presence were obvious outside of the venue.
"The security was probably quadrupled from what I would suggest is a normal concert," said McParland.
During the performance Browne referenced the flyers twice, he added, in one case joking he didn't think he was worthy of a death threat.
"He indicated that this kind of thing wasn't unfamiliar to him," McParland explained. "A lot of his lyrics are very thought-provoking and challenging when it comes to social consciousness."
Browne treated the packed house to a full set of his rock hits and McParland said he's glad he crossed the concert off his bucket list.
"It was a fun night," he added. "The events of the day did not dampen the show or the enthusiasm."
