Federal NDP leadership candidate pushing for support in Windsor
Guy Caron wants to establish a basic income policy for all Canadians to reduce income equality
Federal NDP leadership candidate Guy Caron stopped in Windsor Monday during his tour of southwestern Ontario.
Caron, the Quebec MP and former economist who launched his campaign last month, stressed the importance of establishing a basic income for all Canadians.
Existing income programs, like the child tax benefit and guaranteed income supplement for seniors, could lay the foundation for what Caron would like to see implemented across the country for all residents.
"We have to make sure everyone who is below the low-income cut off can get enough money ... so they don't need to worry about the basic needs, which are eating, clothing and lodging," he said.
The increasing income equality in Canada has created two classes of citizens, explained the Rimouski–Neigette—Témiscouata—Les Basques representative, who said there are people who are well off financially and then there are those who can hardly make ends meet.
