Avicii concert costs university students nearly $40,000
The University of Windsor Student Alliance released its final cost for Welcome Week events.
In a media release, it said the festivities cost "about $40,000." The news release doesn't specify exactly how much was spent for the Avicii concert.
Earlier this week, the University of Windsor student newspaper, the Lance, reported the UWSA lost $37,000 on the downtown concert alone.
There is also some discrepancy between attendance numbers. The media release claims "more than 7,000" people attended the event. The Lance reported 5,745 tickets were sold and more than 600 were given away for free.
Previous to the concert, UWSA officials told CBC News they would need to sell 7,500 tickets to break even.
The student union said no programs for 2012 will be affected. It doesn't make clear if that is referencing the calendar year 2012 or the school year of 2012-2013.
