Walkerton MPP asks for silence

Walkerton's MPP is defending his decision to prevent speeches in the legislature Thursday comemmorating last May's water crisis.

Bill Murdoch represents the riding of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.

On Thursday, he moved to allow only a minute of silence at Queen's Park.

Murdoch says people in Walkerton would have been upset if the anniversary of their water tragedy had been politicized.

The opposition is upset saying the government has gone back on their word to allow speeches in the legislature.

It was one year ago Walkerton's water became contaminated with E-coli, killing seven people and making more than 2,000 sick.
