Veteran Canadian actor Billy Van dies

Veteran Canadian actor Billy Van has died. He was 68.

Veteran television comic actor Billy Van died Monday in Toronto.

He had been battling cancer since he was diagnosed with the disease in Dec. 1999.

The diminutive, manic comic actor, whose full name was Billy Van Evera, starred in the CBC program Nightcap in the 1960s and played several roles in The Hilarious House of Frightenstein in the 1970s.

He also headlined a vocal group called The Billy Van Four.

Van Evera also worked on American variety shows in the 1970s including The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour.

During the 1980s, he was a regular member of the popular Canadian game show The Party Game.

Van Evera was 68 years old. He is survived by his wife Susan and two daughters, Tracy and Robyn, from a previous marriage.
