UBC engineers hang VW from Golden Gate

UBC engineering students have gone south this year to make their mark. Early on Monday morning, a group of them suspended a red VW bug from San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

Officer Levy Barnes of the Golden Gate patrol says the car has a big "E" painted on it, and it's flying a Canadian flag.

The future engineers also tried, unsuccessfully, to hang a red Volkswagen bug from the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver overnight.

Chris Brown of the Engineering Undergraduate Society says the stunts signal the beginning of Engineering week at the University of British Columbia.

It was 20 years ago that UBC engineering students first suspended a car from a bridge. Back then, they dropped it from Vancouver's Lions Gate Bridge.
